Good curriculum design explicitly connects areas of knowledge as well helps student make their own connections. But it's easier said than done! This session explores a theoretical perspective on which to base the development of interdisciplinary study, considers practical issues in school-level implementation of interdisciplinary learning, and looks at ways to assess students' ability to construct meaning across academic disciplines.
The session goals:
• Survey the lexical field and contemporary scholarship on interdisciplinary learning
• Share learning stories from schools and classrooms that are exploring the challenges and opportunities offered by interdisciplinary approaches to curriculum development and implementation
• Inquire into the nature of effective assessment of interdisciplinary understanding
